Let’s chat about chaturanga – the online version

20 March 2021 @ 11:15 am - 1:15 pm

£25
Chaturanga is perhaps one of the most over used poses in yoga and as such, can be a cause of shoulder or lower back injury when done incorrectly repetitively. So what’s good about it? Well, of course it can build shoulder strength and muscle strength in the back of the body and if you are looking to play with arm balances of any sort, than chaturanga is an essential first step but of course, as with all yoga, we have to do what is right for our body and chaturanga may or may not be right for you.
In this workshop, we will be looking carefully at this asana to identify how it can be done incorrectly (and what happens to the body) and how it should be done in order to look after and strengthen the body. You will use your at home props (two blocks, plus cushions and blankets), to look at variations and ways to access the pose in the way that is best for our individual bodies. Then we will move onto different ways to transition in and out of chaturanga with some fun and lightness. We will explore stepping back, jumping back correctly, piking back and the safe stable transition through a vinyasa with particular emphasis to the shoulders.
Who should come?
This workshop is perfect for students wishing to correctly align the body in this much used vinyasa pose (so may of us think we are doing the pose correctly until shown otherwise!) and for teachers who would like some tips on how to teach the shape and also recognise when adjustments and alternatives need to be given. This workshop will be informative and fun!
